Android may have usurped the spot of being the world’s best smartphone OS, leaving Apple fans fuming. While the recently launched iPhone 5 has brought some cheer to the iOS world, HTC has followed up with its latest fancy Android-based smartphone, the Droid DNA. And well, it does kind of take your breath away – and we don’t just mean the form factor. So, we decided to pit this latest beauty against the iPhone 5 to see how well it lives up to the Android tag. The first impression: Like we said, the Droid DNA looks gorgeous. With a 5-inch S-LCD 3 display, against the iPhone 5’s 4-inch IPS LCD display, it definitely makes for better viewing. What’s more, it’s even got a better resolution of 441 ppi, as opposed to the iPhone 5’s 326 ppi screen. The bigger screen does make it a little bigger than the iPhone 5 in terms of overall size, and it’s also slightly thicker and heavier than Apple’s offering. It’s only available in one color – black, which is a bit of a downer. The iPhone 5 at least has one more color option – white. The Droid DNA runs on Android 4.1.1 with HTC’s Sense 4+ UI, while the iPhone 5 runs on Apple’s latest iOS 6. Beneath the screen: Inside the Droid DNA is a dual-core 1.5 GHz Snapdragon processor and 2 GB of RAM, which gives it way more processing power than the iPhone 5’s dual-core 1.3 GHz Apple Swift processor and 1 GB of RAM. The Droid DNA comes with 16 GB of internal storage. Even in terms of battery life, expect more from the Droid DNA which has been fitted with a 2020 mAh battery, while the iPhone 5 has only a 1440 mAh battery. Picture power: Both the Droid DNA and the iPhone 5 have an 8 MP rear camera, which can record videos at full HD resolution. The iPhone 5 has an amazing camera, which makes it quite hard for HTC’s phone to measure up to, but with similar features like HDR, Panorama mode, etc., we’ll say it’s comparable. The front-facing camera, however, is better in the Droid DNA with a 2.1 MP resolution, while the iPhone 5 has one with a resolution of just 1.2 MP. The Droid DNA’s front camera can also capture video at 1080p resolution, while the iPhone 5 manages to do so at 720p resolution. Connectivity: Both phones are capable of running on LTE networks, in addition to 3G. They also have WiFi and Bluetooth options, but the Droid DNA can also work as a WiFi hotspot. If you’re set on an Apple product, well, we probably can’t make you change your mind. But if you’re looking for a high-end Android smartphone, do consider the Droid DNA as an interesting option.
