One person was lost in the heat for 24 hours last week when temperatures at the town were at 46oC. Simultaneously, three people had to be rescued when they lost their way following Apple’s new maps. The maps place Mildura close to the dusty Murray-Sunset National Park, which is a considerable distance from the actual location of the town. “We’ve had at least four documented cases,” senior sergeant Stephen Phelan said before Apple made the update. “The map puts it at least 70 kilometres (45 miles) from where it should be. We have had people bogged down in Sunset country.” Apple has been saying that it is working hard to fix problems on the maps that were launched in September. Earlier, they were running Google’s maps on the iPhone and other Apple products. However, after Google refused to offer iPhone users features such as turn-by-turn navigation, Apple turned to making their own apps. However, Apple maps have not worked successfully for most users. Inadvertently, Apple CEO Tim Cook publicly apologized for the mishaps caused by his software and committed to make improvements.
