Sony issued a support alert saying, “For your safety, if you are in possession of one of the PCs listed above, please immediately turn off your computer, disconnect it from its AC adapter and discontinue use,” in its UK website. However, it is still to release any such support alert to its US customers. Most of the time, companies recall faulty units but Sony is not planning to do so as of now. However, it released further information on the issue and announced, “We are currently identifying affected PCs by serial numbers and developing a program to repair or replace the affected PCs at no charge, or to refund the purchase price for the affected PCs.” Sony is planning to offer further guidance on this issue in the next couple of weeks but till then the company is warning its customers repeatedly against using their laptops. The faulty battery issue has added to the woes of Sony as this is the last thing the company was expecting at the time of exiting the PC market after struggling for years.
