In a recent blog post, Nokia tried to take few swipes over the growing disapproval of Apple’s inaccurate mapping solutions to endorse its own digital mapping platform. In the controversial blog, Nokia compared its own mapping software in Lumia 920 with Samsung Galaxy S III and Apple’s iPhone 5, stressing on Apple’s lack of public transportation information and offline support. Four years back, Nokia acquired Navteq, which offers the essential digital mapping information used by GPS navigation devices and Internet services. Navteq is one of the most widely used digital mapping software, which gives Nokia the advantage. Offering the benchmark test for comparisons in its blog, Nokia wrote that its voice-guided, turn-by-turn navigation exists in over 110 countries, compared to 56 with Apple and 39 with Samsung’s mapping software. The post written by Pino Bonetti, Senior Marketing Communications Manager, Nokia says, “We truly understand that maps and location-based apps must be accurate, provide the best quality and be accessible basically anywhere.” He further said, “That’s been standard practice at Nokia for the past six years, and we also understand that ‘pretty’ isn’t enough. You expect excellence in your smartphone mapping experience.” Here is the link to his blog post- http://conversations.nokia.com/2012/09/20/benchmarking-mobile-maps/ Following the complaints, Apple said it is working on to build its software for better. However, Nokia’s Bonetti argues that a good mapping experience cannot be built overnight. He said, “We believe that the best user experience comes indeed from precise data, robust processing of core platform functionalities like routing, geocoding and traffic, and by user friendly apps. All this cannot be built overnight.” For a detailed comparison between iphone5 and Nokia Lumia 920 go to:https://techthirsty.com/2012/09/14/iphone5-vs-nokia-lumia-920-i-am-in-a-fix/ Nokia introduced its Lumia 920 with a number of updates to its mapping application.
