Nokia, the former world leader in mobile phones, has a lot to be worried about. After having a difficult third quarter this year, it is pinning all its hopes on the upcoming Microsoft Windows Phone 8 to turn its fortunes around. The Finnish company posted a loss of $755 million in the third quarter, but is all set to launch the Lumia 820 and 920, powered by Windows Phone 8, in a bid to recover its heavy losses. Both these phones have a typical Nokia design, imbibing the PureView technology for the cameras, the newly upgraded Nokia Maps, wireless charging, and many similar features that give the Lumia series its distinct USP. While Nokia did not face much success with the previous Lumia models running on Windows Phone 7, maybe this upgraded version of Windows Phone will find more takers, and hopefully pull away customers from iPhones and Android-based smartphones. Nokia will be going up against Samsung and HTC with its new range of phones, and it will face stiff competition from the other companies. Samsung even managed to unveil its Windows 8-based phone before Nokia. As the sales of Lumia phones slid from 4 million to 2.9 million over the last quarter, here’s hoping Windows 8 can be the miracle Nokia desperately needs.
