The number of virtual games continues to increase with each passing day. And the number of gaming aficionados only continues to increase, spanning all age groups. But in today’s day and age when our smartphones and tablets are becoming our exclusive support for all things work and entertainment, does it really make sense to bother investing in a gaming console anymore? Sure, Nintendo launched an upgraded version of its gaming console, the Wii U, a few months ago, and Sony recently unveiled its brand new PlayStation 4. But most of us love gaming on the move, instead of playing games cooped up within the confines of our room. Gaming consoles make the concept of gaming a lot more restrictive – you can’t take your game with you to work or to college, and you certainly can’t play a PS4 game during your commute. Not to mention, gaming consoles are awfully expensive – and we don’t just mean the initial investment when buying the console itself. You then have to continuously spend a lot of money every time you want a new game. But when it comes to smartphones and tablets, getting access to new games takes literally just a few seconds. And of course, it costs a lot cheaper too. Not only that, gaming on your mobile device is something you would end up doing far more frequently in comparison to gaming using a console. Given that the gaming market consists mostly of casual gamers – people who are into gaming as mere entertainment, the advent of mobile devices could potentially drag down the demand for gaming consoles. For you as a consumer, gaming on your tablet or smartphone is far more convenient and pocket friendly. And now even more so, given that most of the mobile devices can connect to large screen HDTVs to give you a much better gaming experience too.
